Meet Maham - our 2024 Honorary Captain:
Maham is the oldest of four kids. A few weeks before her 18th birthday in March 2023, she began to feel tired no matter how much rest she was getting. After a couple of fruitless doctor’s visits, a blood test alarmed her doctors, and she was sent for a bone marrow biopsy. The biopsy showed that she was suffering from Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. She was in-patient for a month for her first round of intense chemotherapy. Though she has had some rough stretches, she has made steady progress. Her form of Leukemia typically requires a year of treatment, which is complete. She is now in her first two-year maintenance period.
Building on Love was introduced to Maham via her Child Life Specialist at Albany Medical Center’s Melodies Center. Staff shared how wonderful and inspiring her mom was and encouraged her to consider applying for a grant. Building on Love helped with mortgage and car loan expenses.

2024 will mark the 15th edition of the Capital Cup for Kids, the premiere adult hockey fundraising event in Upstate, NY.
As it has been since our inception, the focus of the Capital Cup for Kids will be to raise funds and awareness for children battling a life-threating medical condition and their families in need in the Capital Region.
This year we will provide support to Building on Love who is managing the administrative and fiduciary responsibilities of presenting the event. Funds will also benefit Capital Cup for Kids, Inc. We will also be granting funds to Make A Wish of NENY and other local organizations. Your gift will do a lot of good!
The 2024 event will feature 400+ participants making up 24 teams competing in four divisions, all vying for their names on the Capital Cup as well as for the bragging rights as the tourney’s largest fundraiser.
