Hat Trick Heroes
Meet our Honorary Captain – Aiden.
Aiden’s journey began at just six years old. He is a happy, energetic second grader who was diagnosed in September 2022 with grade 3 Choroid Plexus Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive type of brain cancer. In addition to this horrible disease, Aiden also has a germ line mutation of his TP53 tumor suppressor gene resulting in Li-Fraumeni Syndrome or “LFS”.
Within 8 months of diagnosis, Aiden endured four major brain surgeries, two ventricular brain shunt surgeries, a porta-Cath placement surgery, six sessions of inpatient chemotherapy, a stem cell harvest, two stem cell transplants, a stroke, and an emergency appendectomy.
In May 2023, Aiden became the first and only patient enrolled in a groundbreaking clinical trial at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City where he underwent experimental treatment using intra-arterial chemotherapy in hopes of reducing the blood supply to the tumor.
344 days after 15 major surgeries and procedures, 132 bags of chemotherapy, numerous blood and platelet transfusions, hundreds of finger pokes and scans, and countless days spent in various hospitals across the state, Aiden was declared in remission and rang the gong at Albany Medical Center on September 5, 2023. Because of the amazing team of doctors and nurses who came together in his fight, Aiden remains in remission with no evidence of disease.
Aiden loves his big brother Caleb, puppies, dancing, and singing. He is the son to Jason and Patricia Rodriguez of Hudson Falls. At this time, Jason is serving on active duty with the United States Air Force.
