Meet our Honorary Captain – Lyle.
Lyle was born on August 9, 2013, at 24 weeks, 6 days and weighed just 1 pound 12 ounces. Lyle spent his first 134 days in the NICU at Albany Med. Lyle’s doctors told his parents that he would most likely not make it through the surgery and to prepare for the worst. Luckily, Lyle is a fighter and after several very scary days, he pulled through. Lyle had four more major procedures, including a major heart surgery, during his NICU stay. While Lyle was in the NICU his family was able to stay at Albany’s Ronald McDonald House. Lyle was finally able to go home on December 19, 2013, almost one month after his original due date. Since discharge Lyle has been diagnosed with a rare chromosomal abnormality, and cerebral palsy.
A note from Mom. “Due to Lyle’s ongoing medical problems, we were grateful to receive the Building on Love grant in 2018 to keep our home. Lyle loves watching his Daddy play on his team and looks forward to seeing everyone at the rink!”
Lyle was introduced to sled hockey at the 2023 Capital Cup for Kids thanks to our friends at Stride’s Capital District Sled Warriors. In the summer of 2023, Lyle’s team – the Zamboni Kids, rallied friends and families and provided the equipment Lyle needed to play sled hockey. 2024 will mark the 15th edition of the Capital Cup for Kids, the premiere adult hockey fundraising event in Upstate, NY.
As it has been since our inception, the focus of the Capital Cup for Kids will be to raise funds and awareness for children battling a life-threating medical condition and their families in need in the Capital Region.
This year we will provide support to Building on Love who is managing the administrative and fiduciary responsibilities of presenting the event. Funds will also benefit Capital Cup for Kids, Inc. We will also be granting funds to Make A Wish of NENY and other local organizations. Your gift will do a lot of good!
The 2024 event will feature 400+ participants making up 24 teams competing in four divisions, all vying for their names on the Capital Cup as well as for the bragging rights as the tourney’s largest fundraiser.
We are counting on your support! You can donate on this page, or purchase raffle tickets by clicking here: go.rallyup.com/ccfk24/Campaign/Details
