Meet our Honorary Captain – Dionis.
4-year-old Dionis from Queensbury, NY, was severely injured in an accident in November of 2022. For several days, the family was cautioned he may never walk again.
He spent over two months in the pediatric intensive care unit at Albany Medical Center with his family by his side before being moved to Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. He amazed all his doctors as he re-learned how to talk, walk and run. He was discharged from Sunnyview in late January 2023.
He receive outpatient care to continue his recovery. He was able to attend school at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
Today, he is thriving and loves school. He also loves playing with his siblings. He has two older sisters and a younger brother. Dionis is very active and loves being outdoors.
Building on Love was introduced to Dionis and his family by a social worker at Albany Medical Center. Building on Love provided three months of rent and auto loan payments and provided the family with gifts and household items around the 2022 holidays.
In 2023 Dionis served as an Honorary Captain for our annual hockey event, and the players surprised the family with a gift to help them move into a bigger apartment.

As it has been since our inception, the focus of the Capital Cup for Kids will be to raise funds and awareness for children battling a life-threating medical condition and their families in need in the Capital Region.
This year we will provide support to Building on Love who is managing the administrative and fiduciary responsibilities of presenting the event. Funds will also benefit Capital Cup for Kids, Inc. We will also be granting funds to Make A Wish of NENY and other local organizations. Your gift will do a lot of good!
The 2024 event will feature 400+ participants making up 24 teams competing in four divisions, all vying for their names on the Capital Cup as well as for the bragging rights as the tourney’s largest fundraiser.
